Virginia, Skyline Drive 22nd ~ 24th October 2013

We left our hotel in Tennessee on Monday 22nd October and headed north-east to our third stop - Waynesboro in Virginia.

Our plan was to spend Tuesday exploring the area and then continue our journey north via the Skyline Drive on Wednesday. Fortunately, the US government shutdown had ended a few days previously and the Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah National Park had reopened.

In Waynesboro we visted the Plumb House. It was closed. :(

This is our hire car, that's the black one. And this, the red one, is NOT our hire car, but it was pretty so I photographed it!

We spent the afternoon at a vineyard.

We visited Rockfish Gap, saw the workers' memorial and admired the view.

On the Wednesday we tackled the Skyline Drive: 105 miles at 35 mph or less, and wonderful views on every side. I did most of the driving, H doesn't like going that slow ;) At the highest point it is 3,600 feet above sea level. The colours were amazing and on these photos you can click for bigger.

Next photogenic point - Harper's Ferry - famous for the battle that was fought here.

And then we were in Gettysburg. The hotel bedroom was huge.
